When world events hit closer to home
Originally published in Propel’s widely read Friday Opinion column, this open letter to Donald Trump explains how witnessing the public treatment of Volodymyr Zelenskyy reinforced The Good Apple Effect founder Elton Mouna’s belief that the misuse of power and bullying should never be accepted, whether in world politics or in a bar, boardroom, kitchen or restaurant.
The article draws a line between behaviour played out on the world stage and the everyday use of power in hospitality. It’s a different setting but the same underlying question – how should people behave when they hold power over others?
Introducing The Good Apple Effect
The piece also introduced The Good Apple Effect to the hospitality industry, explaining why it had been created and the ambition behind it – to reduce the misuse of power and bullying across hospitality while shining a bright light on the positive impact when it is reduced.
It also celebrated the hospitality professionals who had already stepped forward to support the movement and help create positive cultural change.
